Discover Chicago Curry House (Indian - Nepalese Cuisine)

Chicago Curry House (Indian - Nepalese Cuisine) is an unmissable gem nestled in the heart of Chicago, located at 899 S Plymouth Ct, Chicago, IL 60605. With its blend of Indian and Nepalese flavors, the restaurant provides a unique dining experience for those looking to explore bold, exotic tastes. Whether you're a seasoned curry connoisseur or someone new to the world of South Asian cuisine, Chicago Curry House has something for everyone.

One of the first things you’ll notice upon stepping inside is the inviting atmosphere. The cozy interior, with its warm colors and vibrant decor, instantly makes you feel at home. The staff here are incredibly friendly, always ready to offer recommendations and guide you through the extensive menu. If you're unsure about which dish to try, don't hesitate to ask for their expert opinion-they really know their stuff.

The menu at Chicago Curry House is a true reflection of the rich culinary traditions of India and Nepal. From the very first bite, you’ll taste the authenticity in every dish. The Chicken Tikka Masala, a classic Indian favorite, is a must-try. The chicken is perfectly marinated and grilled, then smothered in a rich, creamy tomato-based sauce. It’s the perfect balance of spicy and savory that leaves you wanting more. For those who prefer a milder flavor, the Methi Malai Murg is an excellent choice. This creamy fenugreek-infused chicken dish offers a subtle yet fragrant taste that melts in your mouth.

If you're in the mood for something truly unique, try the Momo, a Nepalese dumpling that’s a crowd favorite. The delicate dumplings are stuffed with a variety of fillings, from spiced vegetables to tender ground chicken, and served with a tangy dipping sauce. It’s a perfect appetizer to start your meal with, giving you a taste of Nepal's culinary heritage.

For vegetarians, the restaurant has an array of delightful dishes. The Baingan Bharta is a flavorful smoky eggplant dish that pairs beautifully with warm naan. The Palak Paneer, made with fresh spinach and paneer cheese, is another standout. It’s creamy and hearty, with just the right amount of spices to enhance the flavor without overpowering the palate.

One of the most beloved items on the menu is the Chana Masala, a deliciously spiced chickpea curry that’s perfect for those looking for a hearty, vegetarian option. The chickpeas are cooked to perfection, absorbing the spices and creating a dish that’s rich in flavor and satisfying in every bite. Paired with basmati rice or fresh naan, it's a comforting meal that feels like a warm hug from the inside.

The restaurant also offers an impressive selection of beverages to complement your meal. The Mango Lassi, a sweet and creamy yogurt-based drink, is the perfect antidote to the spices in the curry. For something more refreshing, try the Masala Chai, a spiced tea that’s both soothing and invigorating at the same time.

What truly sets Chicago Curry House apart, however, is its commitment to authenticity. The chefs here bring years of experience and expertise in both Indian and Nepalese cooking, ensuring that every dish is prepared with care and precision. The use of fresh, high-quality ingredients shines through in every bite, from the perfectly cooked meats to the tender vegetables. You can truly taste the difference in the flavors.

  • Delicious meal from an extensive menu. Ordered Chicken Makhani (butter chicken) and was thrilled that it was thigh and moist/tender. Also ordered Mutter Paneer and Chili Naan. Wished was a little spicier (ordered medium and was mild) but wonderful, complex flavors.

  • We were at Southbank Park visiting the marina - a little bit out of the way. Google found us this restaurant a few blocks away. It’s a fairly small place tucked away in a corner - luckily we could smell the aroma from a block away. They had us at “lunch buffet” . It was uncrowded and quiet around noon. For a small restaurant the buffet choices were excellent. Everything was delicious. I loved the Mango Shake. My companions also loved the mango pudding but it was too sweet for my taste. I’m giving the restaurant 3 stars for atmosphere, not because I didn’t like it but it’s just a basic place, nothing fancy.

Crispy, flavorful, and light. • Chow Mein – Average, can be skipped next time. • Chicken Vindaloo – Spicy, bold, and absolutely delicious! • Goat Curry – Authentic Nepali-style preparation, rich in flavor. • Chicken Makhani – Creamy and comforting, just how it should be. • Chole Masala & Dal Makhni – Both solid, homestyle curries. • Gajar Halwa – Perfect sweetness with that classic buttery aroma. • Mango Pudding – The highlight of the buffet! Refreshing, smooth, and heavenly. ⸻ Hospitality & Ambience: The ambience is simple and no-frills, but the hospitality more than makes up for it. The owner was incredibly friendly — we got chatting and he even offered us two complimentary chais! That’s true Indian warmth right there. ⸻ Price: $17 for an all-you-can-eat buffet — unbeatable for the quality and variety! ⸻ Final Thoughts: A fantastic spot for a satisfying Indian buffet with authentic flavors, generous portions, and genuine hospitality. Definitely coming back again!

  • The food was really good. It's pretty decent buffet for that price. They'll have the buffet option every day and the menu is very good. I liked the taste of food. It is not so spicy and not so bland. The food is up to the mark.

  • They had only buffet for lunch and no ala carte. However the buffet options are very good and unique. Many chat items and traditional veg curries were in the buffet. Mango pudding and rice kheer were yummy! Jeera rice with chana dal was very flavorful. Steamed Veg Momos are delicious. Restaurant ambience is cozy and comfortable.

  • Tables are too closet each other. Service could be a lot better. The music so loud. No difference from my first time. The buffet is very good!
